“Study in Jiangxi”Enters Poyang, Jiangxi - International Students from Multiple Countries Go to Guyu Poetry Festival to Appreciate Peony Culture Together

Recently, international students from seven countries, including Sri Lanka, Madagascar, Bangladesh, Uzbekistan, Iran and so forth, paid a visit to Poyang County, Shangrao City, Jiangxi Province, to participate in the international cultural exchange activity themed “Poetic Charm Among Flowers at Guyu Attic” under the “Study in Jiangxi” program. This marked the second occasion that the Jiangxi Colleges Alliance for International Communication has organized international students to participate in the Guyu Poetry Festival. Wandering along the lakesides and rural areas, reciting classic Chinese poems, admiring century-old peonies and inspecting the new outlook of rural areas, the students were fully immersed in the poetic atmosphere and natural scenery, gaining an in-depth experience of the profound heritage of fine traditional Chinese culture and closely observing the achievements of rural revitalization in Jiangxi, thus embarking on an exchange journey featuring both cultural charm and rural sentiments.

Endowed with beautiful lake-and-city scenery, profound cultural heritage and strong development vitality, Poyang serves as an important window into experiencing the natural features and rural development of Jiangxi. The themed activity of the Guyu Poetry Festival kicked off smoothly, during which international students recited classic Chinese poems in both Chinese and English. Their standard and articulate Chinese recitations, combined with fluent and accurate English interpretations, complemented each other remarkably. Wang Jiesi, a Myanmar student from Jiangxi Normal University, and Gan Yue, a Madagascar student from the same university, integrated lively kuaiban (clapper talk) performances into their program, vividly demonstrating the beauty of peonies in a more dynamic manner. The audience responded with warm applause and commented, “The poetry recitation by the international students is excellent! Foreigners can also perform kuaiban with such high standards!”

At Wuhu Lake in Poyang, the students took a boat tour and experienced the unique charm of Poyang as a “Lake City” through high-speed boat rides, appreciating the beautiful and diverse ecological landscapes of Jiangxi. Huifen, a Bangladeshi student from Jingdezhen Ceramic University, shared her insights: “My hometown also has numerous rivers and lakes, but scenes like Poyang, where the city and lakes coexist harmoniously with clear water and green shores, are quite rare. The clear lake water, beautiful scenery and the harmonious ecological pattern of the integration of the city and lakes here have left a deep impression on me, and also enabled me to truly perceive the remarkable achievements made by China in ecological protection and urban construction.”

Co-hosted by the Jiangxi Colleges Alliance for International Communication and the Publicity Department of the CPC Poyang County Committee, the event was participated by international students from Jiangxi Normal University, Jingdezhen Ceramic University and Jiangxi University of Water Resources and Electric Power. With Guyu culture and poetic art as the bridge of exchange, the event closely integrated the experience of traditional culture with the appreciation of urban and rural scenery. During the event, the international students gained a profound understanding of the profound heritage of fine traditional Chinese culture through poetry recitation, and felt the development vitality of Poyang through appreciating peonies and lake views. They not only deepened their understanding of China’s solar term culture, flower culture and poetic culture, but also truly witnessed the fruitful achievements of rural revitalization and ecological construction in Jiangxi.(揭麒祥 黄润林 张惠 潘旭 晏以恒)
